Pilates is a mind-body workout that delivers profound results regardless of age, gender or fitness level. Pilates is a kinder, gentler exercise for your body with all the benefits of strength training – and it’s a method of exercise for everyone from the elite athlete to rehab to older adults. Overall, it emphasizes the balanced development of the body through core strength, flexibility, and body awareness – these concepts are the basis of Pilates Principles.
As a low-impact exercise that engages the mind and conditions the body with strengthening and flexibility benefits, Pilates is an ideal exercise method that works several muscle groups simultaneously through smooth, continuous motion with particular concentration on strengthening and stabilizing the core. Pilates emphasises energy efficiency and performance quality without putting undo stress on the joints. Touted for their core benefits, most Pilates’ movements focus on strengthening the deep stabilizing muscles of the torso helping to prevent back strain and maintain good posture. As the joints often become less stable with age, Pilates helps maintain stability by strengthening the deep support muscles of the joints, allowing people to do more dynamic activities such as walking, stair climbing or playing tennis.
Achieve Your Personal Best
Common daily activities such as walking up the stairs, running and playing with your kids may seem pretty normal, but sometimes you may experience pain in your joints. Maybe you’re already active in sports, attending the gym, fitness classes or other type of fitness facility. How would it feel to be able to perform better and reach even further beyond what you thought was your personal best, or “genetic muscular potential?”
Even if you are not currently active, strengthening your body and building a strong foundation with Pilates will give you the edge on staying strong, healthy and active throughout the entirety of your life.
